We believe in the dignity and worth of all human beings. We recognize the right of humane treatment of anyone experiencing substance abuse problems, gambling problems, mental health concerns and other problems. We value an environment which is caring, open, trusting, accepting and welcoming. We celebrate the diversity of people, perspectives, cultures, skills and other areas. We will assist in the improved quality of life of every person served, endeavouring to provide the highest feasible quality of care. We will maintain proper professional relationships with all persons served, assisting them to help themselves, and referring them promptly and appropriately to other programs or individual professionals when their treatment plan so indicates. We will respect confidentiality with regard to records and materials concerning persons served in accordance all applicable laws and standards. We will ensure that all interpersonal interactions with clients served are non-exploitive and essential to their good recovery.

We will give due respect to the rights, views, and positions of other addiction counsellors and related professionals. We will respect agency policies and procedures and cooperate with any associated agency management as long as this remains consistent with recognized standards, procedures, and ethics. We will contribute ideas and findings regarding alcohol and other drug addiction treatment and recovery through appropriate channels to professionals in the field. We will regularly evaluate personal strengths, limitations, biases, or levels of effectiveness, always striving for self-improvement and seeking professional development by means of further education and training.

Your Rights as a Client

COH-CARC is taking every initiative to ensure that your welfare is affirmed and protected andthat your concerns will be responded to in a professionally responsibly manner.

Respect
You have the right to be treated with respect.

Informed Consent
You have a right to be informed about the counselling process. You have the right to know thatthe information you share in counselling is confidential with some exceptions as listed under the Section – “Confidentiality.”

Ethical Standards
COH-CARC strives to maintain an ethical and professional standard that is consistent with thestandard of care required of service providers and counsellors. Should you feel that an ethicalviolation has occurred through which you have experienced some measure of harm, you have aright to register a complaint.

Privacy
You have a right to expect as much visual and auditory privacy as may be reasonably providedgiven the limitations of current facilities. Should you have concerns in this regard, please speak to your counsellor.
